Sometimes it seems there is no such thing as being quiet, or still, or just being. Sometimes the noise and chatter seem to be everywhere, and it's very consuming. There is noise in what we read, see, say, do, and allow. The words, whether spoken or not, carry a sound or vibration, impacting us as an emotion and developing into feeling. These unprocessed emotions can feel like muscle tension and pain, or they can even create other ailments. The higher the emotional intensity, the more likely it is to become trapped.
What is the practice of stillness, and how does it profoundly impact our well-being?
The essence of stillness is more than just the absence of movement; it is a state of being fully present and at peace in the present moment. It allows us to cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. I practice being still, resting in the moment, as I slumber in the evening or when I first awaken in the morning. Those are the times of day, for me, that allows for presence.
Nurturing inner peace by embracing stillness creates space for inner peace to flourish. By quieting the mind and silencing the external noise, we can tap into a personal fountain of tranquility that resides within. This space provides a sanctuary for self-reflection, introspection, and recharging. It can also open the door to self-discovery and a deeper understanding of our inner self.
Cultivating clarity happens when we are still and open. We allow our senses to take in everything so insight, informed decisions, and meaningful intentions emerge. Developing the gift of your senses allows clear and fertile ground for creativity, problem-solving, and growth ensue.
Stillness is a counterbalance to modern life's constant motion and noise. Incorporating moments of stillness into our daily routines restores equilibrium replenishes our energy, and prevents burnout. It serves as a reminder to slow down, breathe, and savor the present moment.
We have been taught to thrive on constant motion, do more, be more, have more. This continuous stimulation can take a toll. Moving into states of stillness becomes an essential tool for well-being. Embracing moments of quiet allows us to reconnect with our inner selves, nurture tranquility, and cultivate clarity. We can find solace, balance, and a renewed sense of purpose by incorporating stillness into our lives.
