When your mind is racing, anxious, or experiencing overload - grounding is a way to connect your physical body to the space you are in, to the earth. Grounding brings focus to what is happening to you physically, either in your body or in your surroundings, instead of being trapped by the thoughts in your mind that cause anxiousness, overload, and self-doubt.
You can connect and ground yourself in these ways:
Walk barefoot in the sand, grass, or water and feel the natural connection; take in the sand, dirt, moist earth, and grass; hug a tree.
Feel the warm sun on your face and feet and connect into your space; feel the breeze on your skin and breathe it all in.
Sit in a comfy chair and let your feet connect to the floor or ground - meditation is a beautiful way to connect and ground.
See a cord from your root chakra, the 1st energy center, connecting you to the earth. As you breathe in and out, you can feel the energy from the earth move into your body.
Use your breath to connect - focus on the air moving in and out of your lungs over and over - breathe in, breathe out.
Use your senses: look, hear, taste, touch, and smell to connect you to the space you are in.
You will know when you feel connected to people, spaces, and places because your body and mind will reset and calm. Use these techniques to feel present in your body and connected to the earth.
Affirmation
"As I focus on my breath moving in and out of my body, I feel myself connect to all that is. I am safe, I am calm, I am grounded."
